How customers can select and save menu items with the basket feature

What is the shopping basket?

The shopping basket is a feature that lets customers select multiple items from your menu and keep track of their choices. It works like a shopping cart:

  • Customers browse your menu
  • They tap "Add to basket" on items they want
  • The basket shows all selected items with quantities
  • They can review their selections before ordering

This helps customers organize their order and see the total cost.

How do I enable the basket feature?

The basket feature is available on the Professional plan:

  1. Go to Settings > Restaurant
  2. Find the Enable Basket toggle
  3. Turn it on
  4. Click Save Changes

Once enabled, customers will see "Add to Basket" buttons on your menu items.

Why don't I see the basket option?

The basket feature is only available on the Professional plan. If you're on the Free plan:

  1. Go to Settings > Billing
  2. Upgrade to the Professional plan
  3. After upgrading, enable the basket in restaurant settings

How does the basket work for customers?

From your customer's perspective:

  1. They scan your QR code or visit your menu link
  2. They browse your menu items
  3. They tap Add to Basket on items they want
  4. A basket icon appears showing the number of items
  5. They can tap the basket to see their selections
  6. They can adjust quantities or remove items
  7. The total price updates automatically

Can customers place orders through the basket?

Currently, the basket is for organizing selections and viewing totals. It does not process payments or send orders to your kitchen.

Customers can use the basket to:

  • Decide what they want
  • See the total cost
  • Share their selections with others at the table
  • Show their completed basket to a server

Online ordering integration may be available in future updates.

Does the basket save across visits?

The basket is stored in the customer's browser session. It will persist if they:

  • Refresh the page
  • Navigate between menu items
  • Come back within the same browsing session

The basket clears if they:

  • Close the browser tab
  • Clear their browser data
  • Visit on a different device

Can customers add the same item multiple times?

Yes! Customers can adjust quantities:

  1. Tap Add to Basket to add an item
  2. Open the basket
  3. Use the + and - buttons to change the quantity
  4. The total updates automatically

How do I see what customers are adding to their baskets?

You can view basket activity in your analytics dashboard:

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Look at the Cart Activity section
  3. See how many items are being added/removed

This helps you understand which items are popular with customers.

Can I disable the basket temporarily?

Yes, you can toggle the basket on and off:

  1. Go to Settings > Restaurant
  2. Turn off Enable Basket
  3. Click Save Changes

Disabling the basket removes the basket buttons from your public menu. You can re-enable it anytime.

Does the basket work on all devices?

Yes! The basket works on:

  • iPhones and Android phones
  • Tablets and iPads
  • Desktop computers

The basket interface adapts to the screen size for the best experience.

Can customers share their basket?

Currently, baskets are personal to each device and browser session. Customers at the same table would each have their own basket.

We're considering shared basket features for future updates.

Is the basket feature worth upgrading for?

The basket feature is valuable if you want to:

  • Help customers organize larger orders
  • Let customers see their total before flagging a server
  • Track which items get added to baskets in analytics
  • Provide a more modern, app-like experience

It's especially useful for restaurants with many options or group dining scenarios.
