How to create, edit, and organize your menu categories and items

How do I create a category?

Categories help organize your menu into sections:

  1. Go to the Menu section in your dashboard
  2. Click Add Category
  3. Enter the category name (e.g., "Appetizers", "Main Courses", "Desserts")
  4. Click Save

Your new category appears in the menu list, ready for items.

How do I edit or delete a category?

To edit a category:

  1. Find the category in your menu list
  2. Click the edit (pencil) icon
  3. Update the name
  4. Click Save

To delete a category:

  1. Click the delete (trash) icon on the category
  2. Confirm the deletion

Warning: Deleting a category also deletes all items within it.

How do I reorder categories?

Categories appear on your menu in the order you set:

  1. Go to the Menu section
  2. Find the category you want to move
  3. Use the drag handle (six dots icon) to drag it to the new position
  4. The order saves automatically

How do I add a menu item?

To add an item to your menu:

  1. Go to the Menu section
  2. Find the category where you want to add the item
  3. Click Add Item within that category
  4. Fill in the item details:
    • Name: The dish name
    • Description: A brief description (optional)
    • Price: The item price
    • Image: Upload a photo (optional but recommended)
    • Serving Size: Portion information (optional)
    • Labels: Dietary tags like Vegan, Gluten-Free
    • Ingredients: List ingredients and allergens
  5. Click Save

How do I edit a menu item?

To update an existing item:

  1. Find the item in your menu
  2. Click on the item or the edit icon
  3. Make your changes
  4. Click Save

Changes appear on your public menu immediately.

How do I delete a menu item?

To remove an item:

  1. Find the item in your menu
  2. Click the delete (trash) icon
  3. Confirm the deletion

The item is permanently removed from your menu.

How do I mark an item as unavailable?

Instead of deleting items that are temporarily unavailable:

  1. Find the item in your menu
  2. Toggle the Available switch off
  3. The item is hidden from customers but remains in your system

This is perfect for:

  • Items that are out of stock
  • Seasonal dishes
  • Items you might bring back later

Toggle the switch back on when the item is available again.

How do I reorder items within a category?

To change the display order of items:

  1. Go to the Menu section
  2. Find the item you want to move
  3. Use the drag handle to drag it to the new position
  4. The order saves automatically

How do I add images to menu items?

Images make your menu more appealing:

  1. Edit the menu item
  2. Click the image upload area
  3. Select an image file (PNG, JPG, or WebP)
  4. The image uploads automatically

Tips for great menu photos:

  • Use well-lit, appetizing photos
  • Square or landscape orientation works best
  • Keep file sizes reasonable (under 5MB)
  • You can add multiple images per item

Can I add multiple images to one item?

Yes! You can create an image gallery for each item:

  1. Edit the menu item
  2. Upload additional images
  3. Drag to reorder images
  4. The first image becomes the primary/thumbnail image

How do I set the primary image?

The first image in the gallery is the primary image shown in the menu list:

  1. Edit the menu item
  2. Drag the image you want as primary to the first position
  3. Save changes

What information can I add to menu items?

Each menu item can include:

  • Name: Required - the dish name
  • Description: Optional - describe the dish
  • Price: Required - the cost
  • Images: Optional - photos of the dish
  • Serving Size: Optional - portion info (e.g., "250g", "2 pieces")
  • Labels: Optional - dietary attributes (Vegan, Spicy, etc.)
  • Ingredients: Optional - list of ingredients with allergen marking

What are the menu limits?

Limits depend on your plan:

Free Plan:

  • Up to 10 categories
  • Up to 10 items total

Professional Plan:

  • Unlimited categories
  • Unlimited items

Upgrade to Professional if you need more capacity.

How do I move an item to a different category?

Currently, to move an item to a different category:

  1. Note down the item details
  2. Create the item in the new category
  3. Delete the original item

We're working on a drag-and-drop category transfer feature for a future update.

Can I duplicate a menu item?

Item duplication is not currently available. To create a similar item:

  1. Create a new item in the desired category
  2. Enter similar details
  3. Adjust as needed

How do I add serving size information?

To specify portion sizes:

  1. Edit the menu item
  2. Find the Serving Size section
  3. Enter the quantity (e.g., "250")
  4. Select the unit (grams, ml, pieces, etc.)
  5. Save changes

This information displays on your public menu to help customers understand portion sizes.
